Awareness and Control in Sociolinguistic Research (Cambridge University Press) is now published and available for purchase! This book (edited by Anna Babel of The Ohio State University) has something for everyone, whether you're an experimentalist, a field interviewer, an ethnographer, a theorist, or some combination thereof. My chapter - Awareness and acquisition of new dialect features - addresses the extent to which awareness of a dialect feature is a prerequisite for change in that feature (spoiler: it's not).
Excited to begin a new research project (Developing a novel task for the collection of spontaneous speech data) with the help of a small Competitive Grant-in-Aid from Georgetown! The grant will allow me to hire and mentor an undergraduate research assistant as I develop the project.
I've just been awarded a Georgetown Summer Academic Grant, which will help me continue my work on how expats and other mobile speakers change their speech after living in a new place. Watch this space for more details!
